Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Manager for the Office for Research. This position will report to the Executive Director of Research Development and will be an integral part of the SRD team. This position will assume leadership for managing internal competitions, seed funding programs, and funding discovery functions overseen by the Research Development (SRD) team. The Office for Research’s mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Management and administration of internal institution-wide seed funding programs, including coordination of faculty advisory committees, RFP and review portal development, application tracking, reviewer recruitment, and tracking success of past awardees;
  • Management of the limited submission opportunities (LSO) function within the Office for Research, such as coordination of a standing LSO administrative advisory committee and reviewer pool, drafting limited submission policies and guidelines, managing sponsor?limited submissions, and conducting LSO internal competitions as necessary;
  • Oversight of application management platforms subscribed to by the Office for Research, including developing and holding periodic trainings for users across Rutgers.
  • Oversight of funding discovery databases subscribed to by the Office for Research, including developing and holding periodic trainings for users across Rutgers.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across Rutgers including faculty and research administrators from all disciplines, schools, and campuses, grant support specialists within and outside of the Office for Research; and external consultants as needed.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates.
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant experience in research and grant support functions.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of office management, project coordination, organization, facilitation, grant reporting, and promotion/outreach.
  • Basic knowledge of major federal and private funders and priorities.
  • Background in the administration of research funding competitions, including reviewer recruitment required.
  • Strong skills in MS Office programs including Excel, Power Point and Project are necessary.
  • Close attention to detail, superior oral communication skills, computer literacy are required.
  • Ability to grasp and summarize new concepts and information in an accurate and concise manner.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and diverse work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with application and review portals (e.g., InfoReady, FluidReview) and funding discovery platforms (e.g., Pivot, GrantFoward).
  • Experience producing deliverables and presentations for an academic audience.
  • Background or knowledge of program evaluation methods.
Equipment Utilized
  • Standard office equipment such as copiers, fax machines and scanners, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), project management software, competition management software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Office environment, occasional travel to various Rutgers campus locations.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
