We are currently recruiting a Post Doctoral Associate position in the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, focusing on innovative biological discoveries that have the potential to lead to novel therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer. The successful candidate will be an active participant in a vibrant, collaborative research environment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                              

  • Take a multidisciplinary approach to design and implement experiments to understand the basic mechanisms of tumorigenesis, which will include the use of biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, animal modeling and mouse genetics and/or the use of human tumor xenograft models.

  • Duties include but are not limited to conceiving and execution of experiments, data generation, analysis, organization, and representation of scientific data.

  • Maintain current literature knowledge, write manuscripts, and grant applications, and participate in laboratory meetings.

  • Partial supervision of research assistants and/or students, lab organization, maintenance of laboratory supplies, presenting seminars, and other forms of research communication in various national and international meetings.

  • A prior experience with mouse models, immunology, cancer biology, basic programming skills - preferably in R and analysis of single-cell RNA-sequencing data is preferable.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                            

Education:

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in the life sciences (Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Cancer Biology/Cell Biology). Preferred candidates will have a strong track record of publications, are highly organized, possess strong written and oral skills, and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Experience:

This position requires 0-2 yrs. - basic laboratory research experience.  A prior experience with mouse models, immunology, cancer biology, basic programming skills - preferably in R and analysis of single-cell RNA-sequencing data is preferable. Experience with wet-lab research work is an essential requirement. It is expected that the post-doctoral associate will also apply for extramural funding and build an independent career trajectory along the training period.
