Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Assistant/Associate Dissemination Coordinator-(req792) at its Detroit campus location.

POSITION PURPOSE

  Contributes to the design, administration, and implementation of the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (MI-DDI) contracts and grant funded initiatives. Reports to the principal investigator or project manager.

JOB DUTIES

  • Assists in the design of project research and evaluation procedures/protocols and awareness materials; Conducts data collection and analyses using computer based programs;
  • Assists in coordinating data collection activities which may include large survey mailing, face-to-face and telephone interviews, focus groups, etc.;
  • Regular updates to MI-DDI website and creation of new web pages for projects and initiatives.
  • Development of original communication content related to MI-DDI initiatives and projects, such as messaging for social media campaigns (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and press releases.
  • Assist in the tracking of analytics for all MI-DDI communications (social media impressions, website visits, and reach of e-newsletters, podcasts, etc.).
  • Work with state and national partners to coordinate messages and media campaigns.
  • Provide ongoing assistance to MI-DDI team members in the development of recruitment materials and project announcements, ensuring the use of Plain Language throughout.
  • Assist in running Zoom meetings throughout the year, running the technical aspects of meetings for MI-DDI leadership and project staff.
  • Actively participate in research grant proposal writing activities including identifying funding sources and RFPs, developing research questions, designing research methods and data collection procedures and drafting elements of the proposal (needs, significance, design and/or evaluation, etc.);
  • Assists in project report writing;
  • Assists in the management of project research activities;
  • Attends project meetings as needed;
  • Ability to travel independently throughout Michigan.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Have strong organizational and communication skills. This role requires skilled communication. Previous experience in writing and creating messaging campaigns is strongly desired.
    Have a working knowledge of the following programs:
    - Zoom
    - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams
    - Outlook email and calendar
    - Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets)
  • Experience creating social media campaigns for Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram.
  • The ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects.

The following experience is preferred but not required:

  • Lived experience with disability. For example, a person with one or more disabilities, a parent, sibling or family member of a person with disabilities, experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) or staff person for persons with disabilities.
  • Experience using technology (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) to produce brochures and flyers (or the ability to learn how to use these tools).
  • Knowledge of how to make electronic documents accessible to all users.
  • Experience using Camtasia to edit and produce video (or the ability to learn how to use this tool).
  • Knowledge of the use of Plain Language and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) when creating documents and messages.
  • Previous project management/coordination experience.
  • Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
