Freedom on the Move , a multi-institution digital history project based at Cornell, seeks a two-year postdoctoral fellow to join a team that is building a free and open digital archive of all extant North American “runaway slave” ads. A successful candidate will bring subject-relevant expertise in areas such as the history of marronage, Black resistance, freedom-seeking, and/or racialized policing. Research methodologies that may include humanistic approaches to GIS (Geographic Information Systems); digital humanities, or other relevant approaches.



Working with FOTM leadership, the post-doc will contribute to the continued growth of the project. In addition, the post-doc will be expected to: 1) advance their research program; 2) teach one class per academic year in a relevant discipline, and 3) help manage and mentor graduate students working for FOTM. Responsibility, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.


This is a full-time, 12-month academic position which is eligible for reappointment and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The position starts at the beginning of academic year 2022-2023 (July 1, 2023.)
