An exciting opportunity is open for a Post Doctoral Scholar in the lab of Dr. Razi Kebriaei. This position will contribute to important research by assisting in coordinating datasets and associated laboratory activities for both microbial and phage banks. The Post Doctoral Scholar's technical expertise will support the research and development component of bacteriophage processing experiments. The candidate will mainly perform research projects at the P3 Research Laboratory located in the College of Pharmacy, affiliated with The Ohio State University, the spectrum of this research opportunity extends from the laboratory to the patient (bench to bedside) using the cutting-edge aspects of microbiology, infectious diseases, Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic modeling and in vitro assays.

The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy is home to world-class faculty, dedicated students and innovative researchers working toward improving medications and medication-related health outcomes. Proximity to The Wexner Medical Center and The James Comprehensive Cancer Center helps with better translation of our research findings. Core facilities located on campus can assist with additional instrumentation and cutting-edge capabilities.

Key responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform procedures from phage isolation, propagate/culture and cryopreservation of phages, including bacterial cell lines

  • Assist with phage bank curation. P3 Research Laboratory receives phages from collections towards bioprocessing therapeutic phages for in vitro pharmacokinetic pharmacodynamic models

  • Support and troubleshoot timely and high-quality production of high-value phages for empiric use

  • Assist with generation of publications, grants, material transfer agreements, protocols, governance submissions and progress reports

  • Support the primary investigator to facilitate and maintain collaborations within the clinical and bench scientists at The Ohio State University network and externally

  • Support the development of standardized experimental protocols for phage selection and diagnostics prior to therapy, for monitoring phage and bacteria levels and in vitro phage-antibiotic combination treatments

Required Qualifications: PhD in biological sciences, microbiology or related field is required.

Desired Qualifications: Laboratory experience in handling phages and bacteria; Experience in general laboratory operations and assays. Experience in assay development and microbiology techniques including but not limited to aseptic techniques; Experience in writing manuscripts and grant applications; Independence, determination, and passion for research in this field; Experience in bacteriophage and bacterial cell culture techniques, including cell and bacteriophage isolation and managing bacteriophage and bacterial cell lines proficient molecular biology techniques and statistical analysis knowledge; Ability to handle sequences, design primers, handle next generation sequencing data; Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting, especially under high pressure to achieve milestones: Meticulous approach to planning, attention to detail, conducting and notation of experimental work, and the ability to accurately process, store, retrieve and analyze data; ability to work occasional weekends and long hours due to sampling/experimental requirements.


Additional Information:

By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date. Proof of vaccination will be required at time of hire.
