Job Description

Post Doctoral Associate

The Department of Surgery and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a full time Post-Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent works on tumor immunology project in breast cancer. The Briegel laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor progression and treatment resistance, with a focus on transcriptional/epigenetic regulation of cell lineage plasticity and cancer stem cell formation. We use transcriptomic, genomic, and proteomic approaches in combination with patient-derived cell culture and mouse in vivo models of breast cancer.

The postdoctoral candidate will perform independent research examining the crosstalk between cancer stem cells and the immune system, tumor immune evasion, and innate immunity. The candidate will have access to several platforms working with breast cancer patient-derived models and genetic mouse models, including Hyperion imaging cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing and other spatial multiplex analysis platforms, microscope-imaging systems to perform functional screens.

  • Performs immunologic assays (e.g., cytotoxicity assays, myeloid migration studies, immune activity assays, ex vivo co-culture studies, etc.)

  • Performs stem cell assays (e.g., sphere formation, limiting dilution assays)

  • Performs flow cytometry and immunophenotyping

  • Performs immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence

  • Performs shRNA and CRISPR/Cas9 gene knockdown/knockout studies

  • Performs molecular analysis (e.g., qPCR, Western Blot, RNA/DNA/protein analysis)

  • Performs protein-protein interaction studies (Co-immunoprecipitation, PLA, in vitro pulldown assays)

  • Performs tissue culture experiments with primary cells and established cell lines.

  • Works with animals and maintains mouse colonies

  • Rigorously documents and maintains a record of research findings.

  • Maintains appropriate databases. Ensures accurate written and computerized records.

  • Prior research experience (>4 years) in a scientific laboratory setting required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Previous research experience in tumor immunology, spatial transcriptomic/proteomic analysis, protein-protein interaction studies, and/or stem cell analysis is highly desirable. Excellent computer, organization, and problem-solving skills, and a good command of the English language (both verbal and written) are also required.
