Job Description

Instructor of Human Science (Human Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology or Microbiology)

  • Full Time Position with excellent, comprehensive benefits package
  • Compensation: $59,618 - $95,199 (Dictated by Collective Bargaining Agreement - based on degree and qualified experience)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Teaches assigned college course work as defined by North Central Michigan College and assigned by the Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences. Assists students in meeting didactic and clinical requirements and understanding course material. Conducts self in a professional manner promoting statesmanship with students, clinical agencies, other faculty and staff.

Courses include: Human Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology or Microbiology

DUTIES:

  • Teaches assigned contact hours per semester including but not limited to supplying syllabus, orientation, course materials including textbooks and software, scheduling, grading, and student communications including Brightspace.
  • Assignment may include day, evening and weekend hours as well as off-campus and on-line instruction.
  • Holds regular office hours per week and accommodates students as needed.
  • Participates in curriculum development, instructional improvement, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • May participate in college governance structure through committee service and may sponsor student clubs or organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Biology or a closely related field(s).
  • Documented teaching or training experience in relevant areas.
  • Experience and coursework in the following areas: Anatomy and Physiology, Human Biology, Microbiology and/or Pathophysiology.
  • Support for a Nursing and Allied Health curriculum
  • Background knowledge of classroom and student assessment
  • Teaching freshman/sophomore level college classes.
  • Academic advising and student mentoring.
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in Community College or University setting
  • Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques
  • Designing and teaching non-traditional modes of instruction such as learning communities, online instruction and linked or coordinated studies classes.
  • Awareness of current trends/issues related to the profession, and active in community and professional organizations.
  • Experience with curriculum development
