Job Description

Position Summary

Available to study mechanisms of host defense against infection-induced lung injury.

The project studies distinct host-pathogen interactions as the framework for understanding complications and persistence of acute lung injury from severe infection. The studies will involve probing host-protective mechanisms that counter pathogen-initiated lung inflammation and injury, specifically focusing upon the role of platelet and fibroblast specific matricellular protein thrombospondin-1 in lung injury, resolution and repair. The project will utilize a repertoire of relevant murine models of live bacterial and viral infection models as well as sterile lung injury models to study alveolar barrier function, tissue inflammation and matrix remodeling events

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong foundation in clinical immunology, standard molecular biology techniques, cellular immune assays, flow cytometry, and mouse genetics.
  • Candidates with a recently obtained Ph.D. with training in microbiology and immunology, cell biology, molecular microbiology and molecular genetics are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates with a broad clinical understanding of disease and experience in animal studies are also highly encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness to work with small animals, learn new techniques such as multi-photon imaging, and is open to multi-disciplinary teamwork.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
