Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (laboratory of Yuri Persidsky, https://medicine.temple.edu/yuri-persidsky) is seeking a Research Scientist to study the mechanisms of blood brain barrier injury and neuroinflammation in diabetes, HIV infection and alcohol abuse using in vitro under flow models of the neurovascular unit (co-culture of primary brain endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes) and in vivo models (neuroinflammation including in vivo imaging of brain microvasculature, HIV infection in humanized mice). The Research Scientist will independently interpret, organize, and coordinate research assignments and projects to further the research efforts of the Persidsky lab.

Responsibilities include: Conducting innovative research; completing projects independently; providing technical leadership and consultation to co-workers and staff. Applies diversified knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols in research project.
Collaborates with staff and investigators on design, analysis, application, and reporting of research results. Develops research/scientific model concepts. Prepares grant proposals to obtain research funding. Maintains current and state-of-the-art-technical equipment and systems. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
PhD/MD in life sciences, preferably immunology, cell or molecular biology and 4 years of postdoctoral experience, or a Master's Degree and 5 years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Experience with cellular immunology, laser confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and tissue culture
*Experience with mouse models and/or human immunology
*Ability to work independently as a part of the research team
*Ability to operate applicable software programs
