JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neural and Behavioral Sciences, and the laboratory of Dr. Amy Arnold, in Hershey, PA is seeking a postdoctoral scholar. Dr. Amy Arnold’s laboratory works on understanding how angiotensin-(1-7), a beneficial hormone of the renin-angiotensin system, interacts with the brain to improve cardiovascular and metabolic functions in mouse models of obesity and hypertension. These studies use a variety of approaches in mice including surgical procedures, blood pressure monitoring, measurement of insulin action and energy balance, and whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology methods to record neuron activity.

The candidate should have an advanced degree (M.D. or Ph.D.) in Neuroscience, Biology, Physiology, or related fields (in hand by time of start) with experience performing physiology studies in mouse models. The candidate should have background and career interest in integrated physiology, the autonomic nervous system, and blood pressure or metabolic regulation and have a publication record in these fields. They should have experience with mouse handling, surgical procedures, and whole cell patch clamp electrophysiology. The candidate will be expected to collect, organize, and analyze scientific data, prepare abstracts for presentation at scientific meetings, publish manuscripts, and participate in other ongoing research in the laboratory as well as career development opportunities. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
