Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate

Job Description


This is a grant funded, fixed term, one year position, renewable on the recommendation of the faculty mentor and at the discretion of the dean.

A Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate position is available to study molecular signaling mechanisms of protein methylation in craniofacial and cardiac development in the Xu lab at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.

The project will utilize multidisciplinary approaches including mouse genetics, imaging, primary cell culture, epigenetic and multi-Omics approaches. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a recent Ph.D. or M.D. degree, preferably trained in the developmental biology field. Previous experience in genetic mouse models is a requirement. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated. The Xu lab locates at the Health Science Campus in the Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology, with ample collaborations with the Norris Cancer Center, Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, and the Brain Center at Keck School of Medicine. The campus is in the heart of the Los Angeles, a city rich in diversity, culture and history.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies. Participates in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the direction of a supervisor. May or may not work independently.
  • Identifies, researches, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to area of specialization.
  • Analyzes and evaluates research data utilizing computers and provides interpretations requiring significant knowledge of a specialized area of research.
  • Searches literature, utilizing all available resources including electronic, regarding new methodology and designs experiments accordingly.
  • Contributes to the development of research documentation for publication and/or prepares technical reports, papers and/or records.
  • Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory/scientific equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate will perform and train to use equipment for Immunology, Molecular genetics, Flow Cytometry, Microbiology, DNA & RNA isolation from FFPE tissues, RT qPCR, RT2 Profiler PCR Array, Immunohistochemistry, Tissue microarray, and Digital image analysis.

The annual base salary range for this position is $64,480.00.
