Vice President for Academic Affairs

Supervises: Academic Affairs Staff & Faculty

Hours: 40

EX/NE: Exempt

General Description: To provide academic leadership and management for the college's instructional programs and services so that student and community higher education needs are met effectively and efficiently. This position is responsible for providing effective leadership for all programs and services supporting student success.

Position Duties/Functions:

1. Report to, assist, and advise the college president.
2. Provide leadership for:

a. academic change based on best practices

b. curriculum development and academic policy formulation

c. evaluation and staff development

d. instructional personnel screening, selection, and recommendation for employment

e. course, program, general education, and co-curricular assessment

f. student retention and completion

g. student success initiatives

h. assessment

i. library

j. Computer Information Systems Lab and Testing Center

3. Prepare and/or oversee the instructional budget.
4. Support and participate in completion of college strategic plan.
5. Participate in grant proposal requests and administration of grant programs relating to academic programs, student services, and student success.
6. Serve as Dean over liberal arts.
7. Communicate with local educational, business, and civic leaders to support maximum use of the college's instructional and student services resources.
8. Maintain open communication and good working relationships with college faculty members, administrators, and staff.
9. Participate in professional organizations to keep abreast of innovations and trends in community college services and instruction.
10. Provide leadership for the implementation of educational research to determine student and community needs for programs and services.
11. Serve as the college’s Higher Learning Commission Liaison.
12. Participate in mutual gains labor negotiation activities affecting faculty, support staff and administrative contracts.
13. Work collaboratively with the other campus departments.
14. Serve on college committees as appropriate and necessary.
15. Represent the College at appropriate state, regional and national meetings related to academics

16. Member of the President’s Executive Team and Central Administration
17. Perform other duties as may be specified by the College President.

 

Required Qualifications:

1. Minimum of a master's degree, doctorate preferred.
2. Progressive community college leadership in academics with at least five years’ experience in community college teaching.
3. A thorough understanding of the philosophy of a comprehensive community college and a commitment to the principles of continuous quality improvement.
4. Strong communication skills and ability to maintain interpersonal relationships.
5. Successful experience in the management of college budgets.
6. Ability to build community alliances in a collaborative fashion.
7. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as independently.

REMUNERATION: $100,000 - $120,000 (determined by experience)

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
