POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Equity Initiatives leads and executes PPLM’s internal and external work to advance diversity, equity and inclusion working in partnership with PPLM leadership, staff, community and other strategic partners. PPLM is seeking a highly motivated and equity- centered public health professional to lead the development and continuous improvement of equity initiatives, with the goal of embedding equity practices into everyday work.
The position will provide management support and oversight in the development and implementation of equity initiatives across different organizational functions and locations of PPLM, consistent with an intersectional race equity and reproductive rights and justice lens. The Director will provide leadership and direction in facilitating systemic interventions to embed equity in practice through PPLM’s internal Equity Action Plan and external Health Equity Initiatives. This person will also support the Equity and Engagement department in reporting and evaluation related to our work -as well as work in collaboration with the Organizational Development Team to provide leadership in developing, initiating, and maintaining effective programs for retention, recognition and workforce belonging.
Last, this role will take the lead in identifying opportunities for the improvement and maximization of existing functionality of current systems and operational workflows. Independently identifies issues, analyzes data, proposes and implements solutions, and monitors and tracks results. Serve as leader and advisor in working with equity initiative teams to develop and implement workflow/operational changes and determine solutions to highly complex issues.
Compensation: $92,000 - $96,000

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Directs the planning, implementation, execution, and tracking of a portfolio of assigned, highly complex projects crossing multiple functional areas with a focus on improving and enhancing named equity initiatives through effective management and data analysis. Determines program parameters, guidelines, and structure. Provides in-depth analysis of issues and proposed solutions.

    • Equity Systems and Supports
    • Lead PPLM’s internal Equity Inclusion Action Team
    • Responsible for providing project manager to the Equity Inclusion Action Team’s plan
    • Serve as a thought leader and facilitator of PPLM’s affinity and caucusing spaces
    • Manage internal work related to trainings and staff engagement related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
    • Health Equity Strategies
    • Serves as a subject matter expert for health equity in the writing of grant proposals and reports
    • Develops regular organization-wide communications on the status and impact of health equity initiatives. Facilitates and consults on the development and design of external communications on health equity initiatives
    • Contextualizes daily work in PPLM's broader vision and commitment to sexual and reproductive health equity to strengthen team’s commitment to and quality of the work
    • Collaboratively builds agendas for Core Team meetings, as well as recurring and ad-hoc key stakeholder meetings
    • Facilitates progress in each priority and creates an environment of stability, growth, and accountability, balancing the urgency of addressing health inequities with the pace of making sustainable systemic change
    • Provides functional guidance concerning the implication of the application of various systems. Serves as functional expert and resource on complex projects.
    • Leads annual matching process with Boston University’s Maternal Child Health Fellowship program. Supervises, trains and mentors Fellow.

    • Community Building
    • Collaborates with colleagues focused on equity to ensure continual alignment of the health equity initiatives with PPLM's commitment to equity for employees and the communities we serve
    • Serves as Team Manager in collaborative capacity-building partnerships, such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Pursuing Equity Learning & Action Network
    • Convenes internal and external key stakeholders/business owners, encouraging cross-departmental collaboration, breaking down siloed workflows and communication, and encouraging equity across differing levels of organization and in PPLM’s relationship with the communities it serves
    • Supports and serves as high-level resource for Team Leads and Admins and participates in team meeting planning, facilitation, and follow-up activities. Serves in team interim roles during staff transitions or absences.

    • Assessment and Accountability
    • Helps define project scope, goals, and deliverables. Creates project timelines and milestones
    • Provide direct supervision to two staff and intern
    • Responsible for tracking deliverables as well as monitoring and reporting on project progress
    • Leads the creation of Request for Proposal, hiring process, and selection of consultants, as needed
    • Lead and manage grant-funded initiatives, liaising with funders, tracking deliverables, and supporting staff implementing grant-funded activities, as needed
    • Ensures that project owners’ needs analysis is in alignment with health equity initiatives
    • Utilizes reports, audits or other methods to assess, analyze and evaluate
    • opportunities for improvement in the areas of workflow operations and data integrity. Develops, suggests, and implements creative solutions or processes to correct identified
    • issues.
    • Proactively identifies data, analytics, and reporting inefficiencies. Develops and implements processes and procedures to ensure the standardization of operations and minimize areas of inefficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree with seven years’ work experience in a professional setting required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Eight to ten years of health care/public health experience preferred
    • Experience working to address social and health inequities
    • Deep understanding of racism and other forms of oppression and their impact on health outcomes and non-profit operations
    • Visionary, results- oriented, collaborative relationship builder
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of management including planning, organizing, directing, motivating, controlling, and decision making in public health initiatives
    • Excellent communication, writing, editing and computer skills essential. Ideally, familiar with Microsoft products, including Excel and PowerPoint, project management software, and electronic medical records, or comfortable with self-directing training on and navigation of various platforms and databases
    • Strong organization, attention to detail, and project management skills necessary. Must be flexible and work well with deadlines.
    • Ability to assess and analyze population, program, and patient-level data to inform reporting and health equity initiatives

    • Ability to assess, analyze, and comfortably discuss complex stigmatized public health issues
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different PPLM sites, as needed
