Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada is the first and oldest nonprofit organization in Nevada serving children, from birth to 21 years of age, and families coping with childhood cancer. Its mission is to provide emotional support, quality of life programs, and financial assistance to these families with the goal of allowing them to focus on the journey, and most importantly, loving their child.


Job Summary:


Looking for a Director of Development who is a strategic leader and experienced fundraising professional to join a dynamic leadership team to help build the next chapter of a small and mighty organization. This position develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support for the organization- including identifying and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing and managing corporate and individual leads, fostering strong donor and sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for, and managing grant funding. Additionally, this position provides strategic oversight to fundraising events and ensures that the organization's mission is delivered.


Description of Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements a strategic annual fundraising plan, setting and monitoring annual monetary goals and budgets.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with community, corporate, and foundation partners.
  • Provides strategic direction to the annual appeal.
  • Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to existing donors and the public.
  • Maintains current and accurate donor records.
  • Responsible for managing the Development department staff, including conducting performance evaluations and career development for all direct reports.
  • Takes a lead role on the development committee and various event committees.
  • Oversees communication including content creation for monthly e-newsletter, social media, and printed materials.
  • Researches, applies for, and manages grants.
  • Leads key cultivation and fundraising events.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards prospective and existing donors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Key Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles, with a proven track record of securing donations and sponsorships.
  • Ability to delegate authority combined with a willingness to work in a “hands on” manner and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust heavy workload, manage a variety of tasks, and meet various deadlines with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and conflicting deadlines.
  • Must have the discretion and tact necessary to handle sensitive and confidential information. High integrity and strong ethical character a must.
  • Proficient in computer software including but not limited to word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases. Experience with design programs like Canva a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a small organization where flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.

Education and Experience:

  • College or university degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience supervising other with a proven track record of managing, motivating and training staff.
  • Prior nonprofit experience is a plus but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

This position requires a current valid driver's license, proof of authorization to work in the U.S., background check, fingerprinting, and continuous personal automobile liability coverage.


Travel:


This position may require some overnight travel.
