Position description

California schools have received billions of additional dollars to recover from the Covid pandemic, innovate and possibly renew their approaches to teaching and learning. Scholars at the University of California, Berkeley, are conducting research into how local school districts are allocating these new funds, what organizational practices help to explain district allocation decisions, and what effects on student achievement can be discerned in coming years.

Berkeley is searching for a post-doctoral scholar with intellectual interest and deep training in organizational behavior and institutions, education policy, or a related area of study to help co-direct this research project. Our research is conducted with the Public Policy Institute of California, located in San Francisco, and funded by the U.S. Department of Education. We are part of a federal network of research groups looking at recovery and renewal in public schools nationwide.

The bulk of the project will involve field visits and repeated interviews with district and school-level staff in 8-10 California school districts. Eagerness to travel and visit schools in California is required.
