The Saint Francis Center (SFC) was established in June 1983. SFC is a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area, providing shelter along with services that enable people to meet their basic needs for daily survival and to transition out of homelessness.

Saint Francis Center’s programs and services are tailored toward adult women and men, and focus on daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, and outreach. At SFC, guests* have the opportunity to work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, which is often the first step toward transformation and ultimately self-sufficiency.

We are currently looking for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is a Full-Time, Exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below. Applications will be accepted through January 27, 2023.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The CEO, reporting to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic planning for SFC. The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with senior staff members and the Board to fulfill SFC’s vision and mission and ensure the achievement of all strategic goals and outcomes for the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities for the CEO, as the senior staff member of the organization, include:

Strategic Leadership: Builds capacity, creates, and implements strategy, ensures alignment of all operations and efforts of staff, board and volunteers to achieve strategic goals.

  • With Senior Staff, develops and implements plans to support SFC’s position as “Employer of Choice” and “Provider of Choice”.
  • Champions DEI, internally and externally, and is committed to inclusiveness, accessibility, collaboration, and social justice.

Operational & Senior Staff Management: Oversees all operational aspects of SFC, ensuring effective use of resources and legal and organizational compliance.

Operational Management

  • Implements and evaluates annual plans and budgets based on agreed-upon strategic
  • Develops and leads an effective management team, integrating functional areas and ensuring optimized resource management across the Agency.
  • Ensures realignment or creation of programs and services as needed to improve service and support to constituents.
  • Encourages staff and volunteer development and education and ensures financial support for professional development.
  • Maintains visibility with front line Staff and leadership teams
  • Creates and encourages a collegial and participatory work environment where trust, integrity, inclusivity, transparency, and open communication are valued.
  • Ensures SFC compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations, grant expectations and requirements.

Senior Staff Management

  • Leads and manages senior staff to achieve SFC goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the direct supervision and leadership of four to five Director Level employees, including the following:
    • Recruiting and hiring
    • Employee annual goal setting
    • Periodic feedback and coaching
    • Employee development
    • Annual evaluation of performance
    • Compensation, recognition and rewards

Stewardship & Finance: Oversees all earned income and fundraising efforts to meet financial targets.

  • With the Director of Finance, oversees financial planning and management, including forecasting finances, budget and cash flow management, and compliant accounting procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the annual budget is thoughtful, achievable, and funded through appropriate channels including, but not limited to, the following revenue-generating sources: individual, corporate, foundation, and community donors; government grants; and events.
  • Responsible for the organization’s short- and long-term fiscal stability through seeking opportunities, reviewing options for a diverse funding stream.
  • Works with the Director of Fundraising and the Board to implement revenue-generating plans; ensures revenue and capital are acquired using best practices and meets the mission, vision, and goals of SFC.
  • Creates and cultivates a diverse set of partnerships in the community to advocate and provide financial support for those served by the SFC

Housing Services : Identifies and directs development of new housing programs and initiatives.

  • Leads the identification and development of new housing initiatives, including financial relationships and transactions.
  • Oversees the selection and management of project contractors and program management teams and manages other related aspects of new build/renovated housing construction.
  • Ensures staffing and program services are aligned with development timelines and resident needs

Board of Directors Relationship: With the Board Chair, develops capabilities and opportunities for SFC’s Board of Directors to achieve strategic goals.

  • Works with the Board Chair and members of the Executive Committee to set the agenda for each Board meeting.
    • Engages the Board to fulfill SFC’s vision and
    • Leverages positioning and influence of Board members to support SFC.
    • Manages effective and productive communication between staff and the
    • Provides information and recommendations to the Board for setting or revising SFC’s goals and objectives, strategic planning, and program
    • Provides regular, written updates on SFC’s programs and progress in meeting established goals.

Catalyst for Sector-wide Initiatives: Strengthens and galvanizes change-makers across the nonprofit, government, and business community, working together to address homelessness and poverty.

  • Primary lead for Community Outreach with diverse inter-faith, private, and public sector partners, including the City of Denver, MDHI, Women’s Homeless Initiative, Denver City Council members (at large members in particular), DHS, Colorado Housing Division, Homeless Council, the Episcopal Diocese and churches. Utilize those diverse relationships to strategically support the mission of the Saint Francis Center

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Seven (7) or more years in senior nonprofit (Human Services) management roles
  • P&L Management experience with annual budget of $5M+
  • Impeccable integrity and values
  • Proven performance, positioning and experience in community with other agencies and partners involved in homelessness and poverty
  • Exceptional transparent leadership, management skills and competencies
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in interactions with staff, constituents and partners
  • Exceptional cultural competencies and skills
  • Ability to communicate strategic vision and inspire others including staff, volunteers, donors and the community
  • Solid hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation and financial decision-making
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and drive for results
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Experience in fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization and throughout the sector
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management or Business Administration
  • Three (3) or more years in affordable and/or market housing development (new build and renovations)
  • Ten (10) years senior nonprofit management or business experience
  • P&L management of annual budget of $10M+
  • Exceptional relationship management and coalition building skills
  • Extensive personal/professional network

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting Salary Range $165K to $180K

This is a full-time, Exempt position.
