Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Accounting/Business and Math tutors are responsible for assisting students in KCC course subject areas via individual or group tutoring sessions.  In addition, this position will include cross training to support the LRC help desk and/or the testing center.  
 
This is a 40 hour per week position with benefits. Pay is from $15.16 to $23.00/hour, depending on academic degree and experience.


 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help students with content previously covered in the classroom
  • Aid students with problem solving strategies
  • Provide support with use of principles, formulas, formats, or others depending on the subject area
  • Identify and record common problem areas for the purpose of developing support services and reference materials
  • Adhere to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations
  • Contribute to a friendly and productive learning environment and participate in the overall academic and personal growth and development of participants 
  • Meet regularly with supervisor and subject area faculty
  • Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures
  • Help students, staff and faculty access and use LRC resources
  • Maintain LRC equipment and devices
  • Utilize the LMS to circulate and locate library materials
  • Maintain and organize library materials on shelves
  • Assisting with cataloguing materials
  • Assisting as need in administering/monitoring computer-based, Internet-based, and paper/pencil tests.
  • Check in candidates, verify IDs and eligibility, explain exam procedures/test center rules, monitor examinees, and provide technical assistance during examination time.
  • Utilize professional proctoring procedures to support a secure testing environment. Procedures include consistent verification of ID, verification of student electronic records, verification of instructions, and close proctoring of all students using physical observation, video monitoring, and electronic monitoring software.
  • Provides high-quality customer service, reception in all student-facing duties
  • Provides technical assistance, as needed, and/or communicates with technical support to investigate/resolve technical issues.

  • Ability to explain and illustrate accounting and business concepts
  • Ability to explain and illustrate mathematical and scientific concepts
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to relate to students at various academic levels and need
  • Demonstrative experience with technology used for instruction
  • Demonstrate professionalism, creativity, enthusiasm and encourage student success
  • Must be able to work with faculty and staff to insure understanding of material and expectations in order to contribute to the students’ academic growth and success  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position requires sitting at a desk or table, standing at a board or table, or a combination of both

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree required, bachelors or above preferred
  • Tutoring/Instructional experience preferred
  • Completion of accounting/business courses through 200 level preferred
  • Completion of mathematics through 200 level courses preferred
  • Grade B or higher in tutor subject areas 
  • Overall GPA of at least 3.00 required
