Computer Analyst, Biological Image Processing - Zallen Lab

Job Description

The developmental biology laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Zallen at Sloan Kettering Institute studies how mechanical forces generate the diverse structures of the different tissues and organs in the body. We use biophysical approaches to analyze and manipulate forces in the embryo, live imaging and quantitative image analysis tools to visualize how forces influence cell behavior, and genetic and cell biological approaches in model organisms to identify the molecular machinery that controls these dynamic processes. The long-term goal of this research is to leverage this information to build, repair, and regenerate tissues to treat human disease. About the Computer Analyst role:
We are seeking an interactive, creative, and highly motivated researcher to assist in the design and implementation of custom automated and semi-automated computational tools to analyze cell behavior in living embryos. Both entry-level candidates and more experienced candidates are welcome to apply. You will have an opportunity to work with an interactive, multidisciplinary team of scientists and you will receive ample guidance to ensure your success in this role.

What we provide:

  • A competitive compensation package with comprehensive health and wellness benefits

  • Flexibility for a hybrid (on-site/remote) work schedule

  • Training and ongoing skill building around image analysis and microscopy

  • Opportunities to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and contribute to research publications

  • Career mentorship to foster professional growth

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement custom automated and semi-automated computational tools to analyze cell dynamics in time-lapse movies

  • Work closely with senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to develop new metrics

  • Assist in improving analysis pipelines and guiding lab members in the use of computational methods

  • Depending on interest, there are opportunities to participate in all aspects of the research, including confocal microscopy

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, biology, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent experience with image analysis methods and programming

  • Strong skills and experience in programming with Python

  • Familiarity with open-source image analysis software and available tools such as ImageJ/Fiji or CellProfiler

  • Willingness to learn about deep learning frameworks and multi-dimensional image viewers such as Napari

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, documentation, and written/oral communication skills.

  • Enthusiasm for learning new approaches and a passion for teaching and helping others

Please include a list of three (3) professional references with contact information (names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses) as part of your application.
