This is a paid temporary position limited to a maximum of 9 months from the date of hire. In addition to being a fantastic place to work, CDOT offers all temporary employees paid sick leave. Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at 48 hours.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) in the Division of Transportation Development (DTD) is looking for an two interns to support the work of CDOT's Multimodal Planning Branch - one with an emphasis on planning and graphic design, and the other with experience and an focus on GIS mapping (https://www.codot.gov/programs/planning) related to regional planning, outreach, and education activities. Specific duties and requirements for this internship position include:
Participate in the development of materials that help implement the 2045 Statewide Transportation Plan, including updates to the 10-year Vision Document, Project Fact Sheets, and Transportation Planning Toolkit educational series.- Provide meeting support for and assist with the preparation of materials for senior management or Transportation Commission meetings.
- Assist in the development and management of the CDOT planning and freight web pages and web-based tools, presentations, and other outreach materials, including the development of new and updated infographics for use in public outreach and educational materials.
- Support the analysis of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure across the state using inventory data and GIS skillsets.
- Assist in regional public outreach and communication projects, including meetings with TPRs and MPOs.
- Perform research on state-of-the-practice data analysis for transportation policy, public engagement, technology, and economic activities and develop methodologies for implementation.
- Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis of transportation, demographic, economic, and other datasets.
- Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks, including clerical and organizational tasks.
- Support freight planning activities, such as the development of stakeholder engagement materials, research of best practices, listening and providing a synopsis of relevant freight related webinars;
- Create materials to support CDOT's participation in transportation industry organizations such as AASHTO, WASHTO, the Freight Subcommittee of Planning, and others;
- Support the National Highway Freight Program (NHFP) Program Administrator in the Call for Freight Projects which includes compiling applications, following up on information needed from the applicants, assisting with the scoring process in matrix format, and providing initial results;
- Perform research on data analysis for freight-related transportation policy, public engagement, technology and economic activities and develop methodologies for implementation;
- Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks, including clerical and organizational tasks;
- Expected weekly schedule is 20-40 hours of work Monday through Friday, during regular business hours of 8 AM to 5 PM
- Working from home for 1-3 days a week may be possible after training is completed
Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must be either:
Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Geography, Public Administration, Public Policy, Regional Planning, Statistics, Transportation Management or a closely related degree.
- A recent college graduate in Geography, Public Administration, Public Policy, Regional Planning, Statistics, Transportation Management or a closely related degree. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree within the last three years.
- A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program.
A copy of your transcripts listing your name, the school name, courses by term, and term GPA or degree conferral and conferral date must be included in your documentation; unofficial copies are acceptable (Progress Reports/Degree Audits will not be accepted in lieu of an official or unofficial transcript). Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Failure to provide a transcript or credential evaluation report will result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position.
