Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position at the University of Florida to work with Prof. Jeff Andrews on modeling the astrophysical formation of compact objects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects related to the astrophysical modeling of compact objects, ranging from astrometric detection with Gaia to details of how high-mass binary stars evolve into gravitational wave sources to r-process nucleosynthesis.

The Department of Astronomy and the theoretical astrophysics group within the Department of Physics are rapidly growing, affording ample opportunity to interact with leading experts on gravitational waves and related topics. The successful candidate will have access to significant computational resources via the state-of-the-art HiPerGator 3.0 high-performance computing cluster (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/services/hipergator/ ) and be encouraged to build collaborations within Dr. Andrews’s group and with other members of the department, as well as with our colleagues around the world.

The expected starting date is September 1, 2023, but this is flexible. This position will be initially awarded for two years with the possibility of renewal for a third year contingent upon performance and conduct and availability of funds. 
Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have experience in at least one of the following: stellar and/or binary evolution, statistics, and machine learning
