The Pyle lab at Yale University explores RNA biology, studying the molecular interactions important for RNA structures and the activities of RNA-protein machines. Using tools that range from cryo-EM to cell culture, they seek to understand the impact of RNA architecture and dynamics on the life of the cell. In parallel, they develop new computational methods for solving and analyzing RNA structures. Their work has the potential to inform new strategies for the detection and treatment of viral and fungal pathogens such as hepatitis C virus, dengue virus, and Candida albicans . About the Research Technician role:
Under the guidance of a senior lab member, this role will be responsible for performing a variety of techniques and tasks related to protein purification, tissue culture, cell line maintenance, and general lab operations support. What you’ll do:

• Protein purification including maintaining a stock of basic proteins used in the lab

• Tissue culture work including growing, maintaining, and harvesting common mammalian cells

• Maintenance of AKTA instruments and columns, monitoring the user capabilities and checking the status of columns periodically

• Preparation and maintenance of a stock of DH5alpha, BL21 DE3, EMBACY, Rosetta competent cells

• Generation and maintenance of archives of cell lines, restriction enzymes, and antibodies

• Preparation of common reagents and buffers

• Making growth media and plates for lab members

• General lab operations support including maintenance and sanitation of the E. coli room, monthly inventory checks and restocking, assisting others with ordering supplies, unpacking shipments, and glassware cleaning/autoclaving

What you bring:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s in the biological sciences. Specific coursework and/or training in biochemistry is a plus.

• Previous experience with protein purification is strongly preferred.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail. Ability to use good judgment in managing deadlines and responding to inquiries.

• Proficient computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

The salary for this role in the state of Connecticut is $33,915 (minimum) – $42,400 (midpoint) – $55,125 (maximum)

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant market data. HHMI considers a candidates’ education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new Research Technician I is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
