Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The University of Maryland is seeking a Senior level Accounts Payable team member to manage a specialized payment group/s such as Shell Shop, leases, or subawards. The Specialist is an expert in the management of the vendor relationship, from supporting the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), working with Procurement and/or Office of Research Administration (ORA) and communicating with the vendor to ensure the payment process is accurate, timely and efficient. The Specialist performs higher level functions such as wire transfer requests to the state and training new hires. The Accounts Payable & Finance Coordinator is a key contributor to processing activities in accordance with UMD, State and federal government regulations and a key contributor to the AP Office ensuring a payment delay rate of less than 1%.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or a related field.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained knowledge, skills and abilities required for full performance of the work or the job class may be substituted for the education ore experience requirement on a year for year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Experience:
Six years of progressively responsible experience in combination of accounts payable, budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing and personnel work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skill in organizing and executing multiple assignments under specific time constraints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively, prepare written reports, to work independently with little supervision; to train others and maintain effective work relationships.
- Exhibit outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use analytical techniques to reconcile financial data and review and process financial documents.

- Four years of accounting related or complex processing work.
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility.
- In depth experience with Kuali financial system, functions and data elements and other accounting systems.
- Higher education experience or experience in a large government or non-profit setting.
