Job Description

The Department of Physics within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to join our team. The Post Doctoral Scholar will carry out a vigorous program of independent research in the area of quantum materials for magnetic information technologies. The research project focuses on quantum materials with strong spin-orbit coupling for prospective magnetic information technologies. The project is part of an international collaboration entitled “FEINMAN 2.0: Super Energy Efficient Devices Enabled by Quantum Materials” supported by Intel Corporation.

Responsibilities will include fundamental studies of spin-orbit physics and thin film magnetism and investigating potential routes toward applications. Research activities will include molecular beam epitaxy, device fabrication, and characterization of magnetic and electronic properties. Other duties will include writing papers for refereed publication, traveling to conferences and other venues to present the results, and interacting with other researchers to develop new directions that will aid the department.

Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Physics or related area required. Prior research experience in quantum materials for magnetic information technologies desired. A successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership in experimental research with an interest in multi-disciplinary science involving physics, materials science, and electrical engineering.

The target hiring range for this position is $48,000-$60,000.
