Job Description

Position Summary: Jackson State is seeking an experienced academic administrative leader for the Humanities and Social Sciences Division.  This twelve-month position serves as the senior academic officer for the Humanities and Social Sciences Division and is responsible for overall management and leadership of that division.  The position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervisor for faculty in Humanities and Social Sciences o Supervision entails: hiring, development, evaluation, load assignment o Initial contact for personnel issues related to faculty • Provides administrative oversight to the General Education Committee and serves as the TBR General Education Core Steering Committee Representative and Campus Team Leader. • Develops and maintains an academic plan in alignment with the division goals, College's mission and strategic plan, with the over-arching goal of supporting student success. • Coordinates a data collection and assessment strategy for student learning and program outcomes to measure and plan continuous improvement. • Conducts annual program reviews and assessment • Recommends curricular changes to disciplines listed above based on data; ensures compliance with institutional, TBR, and SACSCOC policies • Collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to promote faculty and professional development activities across the division. • Collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to integrate high impact practices in both curricular and co-curricular formats to increase the quality and depth of experiential education activities in general education and co-requisite courses. • Ensures quality of instruction in classes, regardless of method • Works with area high schools on dual enrollment classes (as appropriate) • Addresses student issues related to the classroom experience, interaction with faculty and grade concerns • Determines schedule for classes including times, dates, instructor, location, method • Oversees grants and other funding related to responsible areas • Collaborates with Deans and Vice-President of Academic Affairs to review and update policies and procedures that impact the division. • Serve on campus and TBR committees and work teams as necessary • Other administrative duties deemed appropriate. The above list is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather identify key aspects of the position. • This position currently requires face-to-face on campus work.

Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree required. Minimum of five years of experience in higher education and familiarity with mission and function of a comprehensive community college.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate degree highly preferred. Cooperative education/experiential learning experience, quality management principles, industry partnerships, distance education, college and secondary articulation, and diversity of people and ideas.

Pay Rate: 79,040.00 - 98,801.00  Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
