Technology Licensing Officer, Life Sciences

Job Description

TECHNOLOGY LICENSING OFFICER, LIFE SCIENCES, Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT)-Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to provide the highest quality licensing and outreach to industry and others interested in commercializing MIT technology.  Responsibilities include identifying and assessing commercial potential of new inventions, identifying potential licensees in established and/or spinout companies, marketing inventions, negotiating license and other agreements, and the strategic management of the patenting process; working very closely with other TLO staff, including supervising designated technology licensing associates or associate licensing officers; developing and maintaining productive relationships with OSATT Core, Office of Corporate Relations, corporate representatives, and other partners in the surrounding MIT and regional innovation ecosystem.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.S. in a life sciences or engineering field relevant to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or medical device industry; seven years’ direct experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or medical device industry, with at least five in a non-bench position involving activities such as marketing and technology licensing, product management, and/or business development and contract negotiation; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; and a diplomatic and a collaborative approach to developing and maintaining effective working relationships.  Must be able to effectively interact with MIT faculty and students, departmental and administrative staff, lawyers, venture capitalists, etc.; manage multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills when addressing complex business/legal/interpersonal/inter-organizational issues; work independently; and exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all assignments.  PREFERRED:  advanced degree or MBA.  Job #22108-12

This is a hybrid flex work role with an expectation of at least two days per week on campus plus additional presence as necessary to fulfill the obligations of the role.
