Overview
The Office for Research’s core mission is to advance Rutgers’s preeminence in research. The Office for Research (OFR or Research) provides essential services university-wide that support faculty research and scholarship. The OFR teams support identifying sponsored award funding opportunities, submission of grant proposals, post-award financial management, negotiation of contracts, research regulatory affairs, intellectual property and commercialization activities, core services, and animal care provided by the Comparative Medicine Resources organization.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Assistant I for The Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, the Business Assistant I facilitates the smooth operation of animal-related financial activities for the various CMR animal facilities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Analyzes data and prepares internal financial reports, consistent with a basic understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit and the tasks and responsibilities of the Business Assistant I with respect to achieving business unit goals. Works under general supervision, within established work parameters for the unit, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non?routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
  • Assists with the undertaking of on-site evaluations of programs and services assesses service levels and program progress and prepares appropriate recommendations.
  • Serves as liaison with various public and private institutions and agencies to determine special program requirements, modifications, or innovations.
  • Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general program coordination practices and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of organization, facilitation, report analysis, and customer service.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in a financial/administrative/operations function.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Must have computer proficiency to ensure adaptability to new and facility specific software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working for an educational institution, specifically for an animal facility and/or grant experience.
  • Lean management knowledge/training.
Equipment Utilized
  • Office computer, laptop, eIACUC, ACFC, Oracle FMS, iLab, Office products such as Microsoft Office application, Adobe Acrobat, web browsers, and other commonly used programs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Office environment.
  • Occasional travel to other campuses may be required.
