Postdoctoral Positions available in immunology, inflammation, and host-microbe contributions to inflammatory diseases.

At least two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Ward Lab at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in Nashville, TN. The Ward Lab is housed in recently renovated open lab space shared amongst faculty belonging to the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology, and Inflammation (VI4). The lab is focused on studying the immunology of chronic inflammatory skin diseases and related comorbidities.

Ongoing projects the lab is recruiting for include:
• B cell-T cell interactions and contributions to psoriatic arthritis pathogenesis.
• Identifying pathogenic molecules involved in neutrophil-platelet interactions responsible for psoriasis promotion of thrombosis.
• Host-microbe interactions and their role in modulating psoriasis skin and joint. inflammation.
• Generating and studying innovative models of poorly understood skin diseases.
• Elucidating Klk6-Par1 signaling mechanisms in inflammatory skin diseases.

The postdoc will work independently on research projects under the supervision of the principal investigator. The candidate should have experience working with animal models of inflammation, technical expertise in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, as well as a willingness to learn new techniques. Individuals with experience in managing large electronic datasets and Bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and reports, and to regularly present their findings in lab meetings, department, and institutional research seminars, and at national/international meetings. Candidates must have an M.D and/or Ph.D. with relevant lab experience, a strong record of productivity with evidence of first-author publications, and excellent communication skills.

Dr. Nicole Ward is a Professor of Dermatology and Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology. She is the Vice-Chair for Basic Research in the Department of Dermatology at VUMC. She is a nationally recognized translational psoriasis research scientist and Principal Investigator of an NIH-funded laboratory and leading expert in preclinical mouse models of psoriatic disease. This is an outstanding opportunity for highly motivated individuals with strong organizational, communication, and bench skills.
