Job Description:

The Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) seeks an innovative licensed mental health professional for an embedded position to provide psychological services to assist domestic and international students in Housing and Residence Education. This position is a non-tenure track, Clinical Assistant Professor with the CWC, housed full-time in Housing and Residence Education. Position duties include individual and group counseling, outreach and consultation to students, staff, faculty, administrators, parents/families as it relates to Housing and Residence Education.  Candidates should have experience working with a wide range of client problems and levels of severity. The clinical assistant professor in this position will provide oversight and after-hours clinical consultation for graduate student Crisis Intervention Consultants (CIC’s) working with Housing and Residence Education. In addition, all clinical assistant professors in our department may provide professional training and teaching to graduate students, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows.     

We are seeking a mental health professional with experience in collegiate mental health who thrives in an environment that values collaboration and support among team members and will work with us to foster the development of our students in all of their diversity through compassionate and high quality care as well as help us nurture a healthy and healing campus environment for all. Potential colleagues should have experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns and levels of severity. Similarly, the Housing Embedded Counselor/Clinical Assistant Professor is responsible for developing and conducting outreach and preventive efforts. The Housing Embedded Counselor is expected to participate in the center’s model of shared governance through the coordination of specific initiatives, membership or chairing of committees or task forces.

About Housing and Residence Education (DHRE)

DHRE provides healthy and affordable housing and dining options to the diverse and evolving developmental, educational, and nutritional needs of students living in a multicultural community.  DHRE houses 9000+ students in 26 residence halls and 6 graduate and family apartment buildings.  All students live in one of 15+ living learning communities.  The Residence Education team is approximately 60 professional staff and over 250 student staff.  The residence halls at the University of Florida are more than just a place to live.  Living in an adult environment with limited supervision provides students with a glimpse of what living in society is about:  interacting with people from various backgrounds, taking responsibility for personal behavior, learning how a political governing system works, and learning how to have fun--and get along--with friends and neighbors.  From classes, to interesting programs, to spontaneous fun, the residence halls provide an exciting living-learning experience.

Expected Salary:

Salary commensurate to qualifications and experience. 

Minimum Requirements:

Clinical Assistant Professors must (1) have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology or counseling from an APA or CACREP accredited doctoral program; and (2) be licensed as a mental health professional or psychologist in the state of Florida within two years of employment.  Employment with the University of Florida is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.

  • Experience working with college students and staff
  • Experience working in settings with more severe  mental health concerns
  • Administrative and computer application skills required to effectively implement and maintain a case management and tracking system
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple clinical situations and to coordinate these efforts as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  • Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
  • Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, standards and ethics
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment/management/intervention, short-term treatment, confidentiality requirements, outreach and referral
  • Strong interest and experience with training and supervising students from various disciplines at the master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral level.
