Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland School of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Music with a specialization in Voice and Opera. We seek a dynamic musician, educator and leader whose experience and expertise will continue the School of Music’s tradition of excellence in vocal education and who will work collaboratively to further the School’s commitment to diversity, social justice and community engagement. We are particularly interested in candidates who have both an established reputation as a performer and also a demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity within music schools, expanding repertoire and curriculum, and leveraging the power of the arts to engage deeply with community partners.

The successful candidate will recruit and teach a diverse studio of undergraduate and graduate voice and opera students, lead weekly studio classes, advise graduate students and serve on dissertation committees. Other teaching assignments may include diction, repertoire and pedagogy courses as well as courses on community engagement and social justice. The successful candidate will maintain an active and visible professional profile, build professional relationships with regional and national artistic institutions, cultivate an inclusive and welcoming learning environment and take part in a culture of service to the School of Music, the College of Arts and Humanities and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:


Evidence or promise of excellence in performance, teaching and advising. 
Demonstrated commitment to, and expertise in, the interaction between music and social justice (including, but not limited to, increasing diversity in recruitment, repertoire and curriculum; building relationships with community partners; and educating artist-citizens). 

Preferences:


Soprano highly preferred.
