Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland School of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Musicology. We are seeking a scholar and teacher of exceptional promise or established reputation with a specialization in U.S. popular music, broadly defined, whose areas of expertise complement those of the full-time faculty in the School’s Division of Musicology and Ethnomusicology.
The successful candidate will teach in the University of Maryland’s general education program, required coursework in the undergraduate music history sequence, and upper-level undergraduate and graduate seminars on topics of their choosing. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining an active research profile; supervising and mentoring graduate students and teaching assistants; serving on thesis and dissertation committees; participating on faculty committees for the School of Music, College of Arts and Humanities, and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in musicology or a closely related discipline (attained by August 2023); evidence or promise of excellence in research; evidence or promise of innovative teaching (especially in general education); and an interest in and aptitude for graduate advising.
