Description

The Division of Science at NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position within its Physics Program at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. As part of a major multi-year growth plan, we seek applicants in the fields of 1) theoretical and/or observational and/or experimental astroparticle and astrophysics or 2) theoretical high energy physics, to complement and strengthen our current expertise.
The astrophysics research amongst the current physics faculty spans a wide range, including dark matter, cosmology and galaxy evolution, active galactic nuclei, stellar mass black holes and neutron stars, exoplanets, and instrumentation. There is a vibrant cohort of postdoctoral researchers, with independent fellowships and working with individual faculty members, a growing number of graduate students, and research active undergraduates. The faculty and researchers have access to high-performance computing facilities with more than 8,000 computing cores and a peak performance of 70 TFLOPS, as well as guaranteed time on optical and radio telescopes. Our faculty are members of international collaborations including NIHAO, SDSS, XENON.
Theoretical high energy physics at NYUAD has a lot of room for growth to complement its current faculty member who focuses on connections between quantum field theory, quantum information, and quantum gravity. More formal and mathematical aspects are the subject of focus of several mathematical physicists from the mathematics program. We are seeking applicants in theoretical high energy physics with complementary interests including but not limited to quantum field theory, conformal field theory, string theory, and quantum gravity. As a theoretical high energy physicist at NYUAD, the successful candidate stands to benefit immensely from proximity of outstanding regional groups in theoretical physics coupled with access to generous local resources for organizing local events and travel.
