Job Description:

The Neuropsychology Area of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida is seeking applicants for a two-year appointment as a Clinical Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Associate (adult specialty; 18 and older). The fellowship meets Houston conference guidelines and is preparatory for meeting eligibility requirements for board certification with ABPP/ABCN. This program does not participate in the APPCN-sponsored computerized match.

Training Opportunities
Our primary goal is to provide a comprehensive training opportunity where postdoctoral associates acquire competence in adult neuropsychological assessment, feedback, and inpatient/outpatient collaborative team consultations.

Expertise will be acquired with a variety of questions addressing age-related neurodegenerative disorders including typical and atypical dementias, various movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, pre-post deep brain stimulation, atypical movement disorders), and TBI.

Experiences will also be acquired with psychiatric conditions (Tourettes, OCD, psychogenic disorders), epilepsy, legal cases, and pre-post-operative cognitive evaluations.  Some rotations involve integrated multidisciplinary clinics with neurology, psychiatry & neurosurgery, and perioperative anesthesiology. Trainees can participate in a unique cognitive intervention program for older adults with MCI (known as PEACE OF MIND), a neuropsychology-informed treatment clinic aimed at improving recovery for conditions such as concussion/brain injury, functional neurologic disorders, and long-COVID (known as the HI-BHaR Clinic), as well as a Brain Health/Triage Clinic.

A secondary goal is for each trainee to acquire mentored clinical supervision experiences; i.e., postdoctoral associates will provide mentored supervision to varying levels of graduate and intern trainees. As part of this mission, associates have the opportunity to participate and direct a Triage Clinic. Relevant teaching experiences are also available.

Training Setting
Training will be within the UF Health Center which is the largest and most comprehensive academic Health Center in the Southeast. The UF Health Center encompasses six colleges, a statewide network of affiliated hospitals and clinics, and the neighboring North Florida/ South Georgia Veterans Health System. The Clinical and Health Psychology’s Neuropsychology Service is housed in a free-standing clinic (https://chp.phhp.ufl.edu/patient-information/) that has close programmatic interactions with the UF Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Trauma, and other medical/surgical departments as part of the UF Health comprehensive care programs (https://ufhealth.org/). Didactic Experience
Some of the most popular experiences include weekly pathology brain cuttings, weekly meetings from the Center for Neuropsychological Studies, UF Neurology Grand Rounds, UF Health Dementia case conference, and clinical case/research discussions within the Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration. Postdoctoral associates are encouraged to assist with Wada administration and interpretation, observe Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) lead implantation, and observe surgeries associated with common patient referrals (e.g., left ventricular assist device placement) and other surgeries that indirectly change brain function (e.g., cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgery, abdominal surgeries).

The Postdoctoral Associate will participate in a monthly training seminar with other postdoctoral associates in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. Associates will be encouraged to attend a variety of Departmental and Health Science Center seminars. For instance, there are weekly/monthly seminars and colloquia within the Department’s schedule that expose trainees to a variety of clinical and professional issues. 

Research Opportunities
The post-doc is expected to complete a faculty mentored research project that can vary in scope and topic, depending on the post-doc’s interest. Numerous research opportunities are available through with current UF faculty.

Advertised Salary:

$54,840; commensurate with experience level and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology

Preferred Qualifications: Interested applicants should have completed APA Accredited graduate and clinical internship programs and have a background of course work and training in Adult Neuropsychology.

    Postdoctoral associates are eligible for comprehensive health and leave benefits and have access to libraries and other research resources available for faculty and postdoctoral associates. Additionally, postdoctoral trainees receive funds each training year to support professional development (e.g., travel to workshops or national conferences, purchase of educational materials). Professional development funds ($500 per training year) are available.
