A postdoctoral research position is available to work with Dr. Fadi Xu, Professor, in the Department of Pathophysiology at the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute. The laboratory is fully equipped and funded by the National Institutes of Health.
The projects are involved in studying the mechanisms underlying neuronal control of breathing in the animal models with breathing dysfunctions. The candidate will conduct the experiments related to ventilatory and respiratory muscles’ responses to chemical challenges, such as opioids, before and after given peripheral or central treatments in the rodents. In addition, the candidate may also participate in detecting the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the respiratory disorders.
Qualifications:
Requires a Ph.D. or M.D. in a directly related field, and a proven record of peer-reviewed publications including demonstrated first-authorship success in applicable research areas.
The successful applicants will be expected to master general ventilatory measurement and to be good at the surgeries of recording respiratory muscles’ activities. Mastering molecular methods (immunocytochemistry, RT-PCR, ELISA, western blot, and single-cell RT-PCR) will be plus, but not necessary.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated effectiveness and experience working as part of a large research team, as well as success performing independent research projects of varying scope. This position requires superior professional-level verbal and written communication skills which are required to effectively perform in the role, as well as excellent judgment, and problem-solving and decision-making skills.
