Position description

The Department of Astronomy at UC Berkeley is seeking up to two highly motivated individuals to carry out postdoctoral research on nearby dwarf galaxies using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) in collaboration with Prof. Daniel Weisz (UCB), Dr. Alessandro Savino (UCB), and Dr. Yumi Choi (UCB / NOIRLab). The successful applicant(s) will lead the analysis and publication of data from multiple major Hubble Space Telescope (HST) programs aimed at resolved stellar populations of local galaxies. The science topics range from cosmic reionization to the cosmic distance ladder to star formation in extremely metal-poor environments. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to collaborate with ongoing efforts involving the Keck telescope, use data from the James Webb Space Telescope, and pursue an independent research program. The candidates will have an opportunity to travel to Tucson, AZ with Dr. Choi to the NOIRLab. These positions will report to Prof. Daniel Weisz.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • A PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.
  • Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • A PhD or equivalent international degree is required by the start date.

Preferred qualifications

  • A PhD degree or equivalent international degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a related field.
  • Experience in areas including resolved stellar populations, local galaxies, stellar photometry, and/or stellar evolution is particularly desired.
