Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Pre-Award Specialists (PAS) provides support to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) faculty members for pre-award sponsored projects and other restricted proposal submissions as required. The PAS assists faculty members with the preparation of proposals and oversee their final submission to the sponsor. In collaboration with the AGNR Assistant Director of Pre-Award Services, the PAS also coordinates and serves as liaison with the AGNR Research Office, the Office of Research Administration (ORA), departmental support staff, department Chairs, agency representatives, and PI’s to respond to pre-award related issues and questions during the proposal preparation and submission process. 

As a member of a multi-person team, each PAS is primary responsible for sponsored projects generated from specific departments and/or University of Maryland Extension programs within AGNR and report to the Assistant Director of Pre-Award Services within the Dean’s Office.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.

Experience:
  • A minimum of three years of experience in electronically-administered Research Administration.
  • One to two years of progressively responsible experience in grants management, forecasting, budgeting, or reconciliations.
  • Prior experience required working with and managing grant submissions.
  • Experience with electronic research systems such as Grants.gov/Workspace, NSFFastlane/Research.gov, NIH Commons/ASSIST, etc. 
  • Experience with Kuali Research. Experience with University-specific accounting systems such as Kuali Financial System (KFS), PeopleSoft, or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency with using standard office and business software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently on assignments.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, particularly within categories pertinent to submission of grant proposals.
  • Possess quantitative skills and experience in the preparation of financial reports. 
  • Working knowledge of federal regulations regarding fiscal management of federal funds such as OMB Circulars and Federal Acquisition Regulations.

Master’s degree preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Adept with Microsoft Excel.
