Summary

The Pediatric Nephrology Research program is a collaborative, collegial and fast paced program that partners with many intramural and extramural researchers.  The program includes clinical trials, longitudinal cohorts, health services and translational research with funding from a variety of sponsors including, NIH, FDA, foundations, and industry. The patient–centered research program focuses on acute and chronic kidney diseases with an emphasis on nephrotic syndrome.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing and collaborating with a team of research professionals focused on a portfolio of research projects. The research team includes diverse faculty, fellows, program and project managers, biostatisticians, study coordinators, research area specialist, data analysts and managers, and administrative support. Research trainees/students are added to the team on occasion.

The ideal candidate will organize, prioritize, and manage their research projects and portfolio to assure studies are conducted with attention to quality, timeliness, and fiscal responsibility. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal, organizational and management skills.  The ability to work independently as well as part of a team and regularly exercise judgment in the application of policies, procedures, and methods is imperative. This position calls for open collaboration with a wide range of professionals.  The candidate must possess the ability to lead in a progressive and professional manner while maintaining a focus on positivity and collaboration.

Responsibilities*

  • Oversee clinical projects with responsibility for ensuring completion within specifications.  
  • Develop and implement detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans and status reports.
  • Serve as the operational lead at coordinating center involved with project(s) working with national and international site-based teams
  • Lead and provide guidance to research project teams. Recommend and take action to support the advancement of solutions to problems.
  • Monitor study portfolio activities for recruitment, retention, data quality, study finances and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with protocols, quality control, data completion, and submission of study related documentation to the appropriate reporting agencies, including external sponsors and the IRB.
  • Conduct systems, operations, and protocol related training for project investigators and study staff internally and at other institutions as needed (remote or in-person).
  • Participate in research grant proposal and budget development and submission
  • Participate in study design activities including protocol development, writing manual of operations, and case report form design
  • Management of team members with a focus on human subjects research
  • Provide evaluation and process driven systems improvements and incorporate feedback to optimize the research enterprise
  • Travel up to 5% for study meetings, trainings

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological, social, or medical sciences, or extensive relevant project management experience with demonstrated ability to be responsible for fulfilling required duties
  • Experience with human subjects or health service research
  • Working knowledge of FDA, ICH, and other regulatory compliance or adherence to training plan to achieve these credentials within 12 months of appointment
  • Experience with pre & post-award activities with federally funded grants
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to prioritize and follow tasks through to completion
  • Willingness to collaborate, think creatively, and work as part of a team with medical professionals
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft applications
  • Excellent attendance and strong work ethic

Senior Level: 

  • 5 years of project management experience and experience with complex project structures

Intermediate Level:

  • 3 years of project management experience and experience with complex project structures

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with complex project structures
  • SoCRA or ACRP certification
