Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Do you want to design, implement, and field unconventional and cutting-edge imaging systems for defense, remote sensing, medical, space science, and law enforcement applications? Then Imaging Systems Group (QPI) is a team for you!

We specialize in sensor design, system miniaturization, real-time onboard artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), and software development to enable autonomous, persistent collections from multiple sensor types across various platforms. In addition, we work hand in hand with our sponsor base to understand their unique needs and implement an imaging system suited to their operational environment.

Focus Area:

  • Sensor Systems
  • Advanced Algorithms
  • Applied Sensors
  • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Prototypes
  • Advanced Optics
  • Sensor Software
  • Edge Processing
  • Geospatial intelligence

We use AI/ML, Embedded hardware, LIDAR systems, Smart imaging, Drones, and so more for Humanitarian, DOD, and Law enforcement applications.

Who are we looking for?

If you are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer engineering, Mechanical engineering, Computer science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Mathematics, Optical Science or Engineering, or a similar major and want to work in an exciting and collaborative environment to solve challenging technical national security problems, we'd love to have you join our team.

We are seeking an intern(s) to join our Imaging Systems Group (QPI) to conduct modeling and analysis, data analysis, prototype, work with embedded hardware, develop or use AI/ML algorithms, work with an optical sensor, and develop optical test benches.

You could work on a team member based on skillset (and so much more!)

  • Develop various GUI interfaces for sensor integration using serial, TCP/IP protocols.
  • Integration Embedded systems in low size, weight, and power (SWaP) hardware such as NVIDIA Jetson series.
  • Applications for image processing for AI/machine learning techniques.
  • Digital signal processing, including Fourier, Transforms applications
  • Modeling and simulation, mechanical design, circuit design, FPGA, Hands on optical design.
  • Experimental optics include conducting laboratory work constructing proof-of-concept systems and evaluating performance, benchtop testing, and digital signal processing analysis.
