Introduction: 

Painters work as a member of a multi-craft construction team supporting other trades for interior and exterior renewal projects. They prepare and paint a variety of interior and exterior architectural surfaces, machinery and equipment. They prepare and apply various types of single and multi-component coatings.

Duties:

1) Survey existing coating conditions and recommend methods and techniques to restore to the desired condition.
2) Prepare work site and surfaces for painting, consistent with the materials to be used and in conformance with accepted industry standards and specifications.
3) Select, mix and apply various interior and exterior coatings.

4) Clean up after each job completion, maintain a safe and orderly work area and perform minor painting equipment maintenance as needed.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years painting experience in a commercial/industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of the various interior and exterior coating systems (latex and epoxy) used in a commercial/industrial facility.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements related to personal safety and environmental protection.
  • Ability to set-up and operate tools and equipment associated with the painting trade.
  • Effective communications skills, both verbal and written. Capable user of Personal Computers.
  • Valid driver's license. Applicants will be subject to a driving record evaluation and background investigation and evaluation.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Desired Qualifications:

Membership in Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) or National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). OSHA and/or EPA training and/or certification.

Special Working Conditions:

Performance of all of the job responsibilities cited above in all campus buildings or structures, including those which house laboratories which handle special materials, is an essential function of this job.

Hours are 7:00am to 3:30 pm or 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday with possible overtime as needed. Safety shoes, safety glasses, respirators and other personal protective and safety equipment. Ability to climb/work off ladders and scaffolding, in confined spaces, and at heights (roofs, antennas, etc.). Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. Operate APL vehicles and industrial equipment.
