Job Title

LEO Cohort Management Specialist

Job Description

The Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities at the University of Notre Dame (LEO) is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented team player who desires to be a part of solving one of the most critical issues our nation faces today – poverty. The Cohort Management Specialist will be responsible for leading LEO’s project development cohorts, managing all LEO events, and partnering with LEO team members to translate research findings into messages for LEO’s external constituents.

Who we are: LEO is a research center at the University of Notre Dame dedicated to reducing poverty and improving lives in the United States through evidence-based programs and policies.

Who we need: We are looking for someone who wants to change the face of poverty in our country and believes that impacting poverty is possible. We are seeking a team member who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative, and evolving organization.

The Cohort Management Specialist’s top priorities will be:

  • LEO’s Project Development Cohorts - LEO invites poverty’s fiercest adversaries to apply to be a part of our partnership program, an experience aimed at helping them understand, design, and launch a research study. Our partners start their LEO journeys with a workshop with a cohort of their peers to learn the ins and outs of impact evaluation, as well as how to create a culture of learning at their organizations. Our partners then work with the LEO research team for several months to design their research studies. This design work culminates with a second workshop with their cohort where our partners share their research designs with experienced and passionate researchers, as well as funders. Once partners are invited to apply to a LEO cohort, this role will be responsible for the next phase of LEO’s project development process by:
    • Manage the application process: Agencies must apply to be a part of a LEO cohort. This position will coordinate that process from start to finish – getting applications to and from the agencies, merging the information into a review matrix, deciding which applications will be moved forward to the team review, organizing and guiding the LEO team that reviews those applications, and notifying agencies if they have been selected (or not) to be in a cohort. Support the application review meetings and drive forward the decision-making process and execution.
    • Serve as the key contact for cohort agencies: The application process is rigorous, and the training process is even more so. To be successful, we must clearly and consistently communicate with our partners. The Cohort Management Specialist will coordinate and execute all of those communications.
    • Coordinate the cohort workshops: All of our partners participate in two workshops. At Workshop 1, our partners learn the ins and outs of impact evaluation, as well as how to create a culture of learning at their organizations. Our partners then work with the LEO research team for several months to design their research studies. This design work culminates at Workshop 2 with their cohort where our partners present their research designs to experienced and passionate researchers, as well as funders. The Cohort Management Specialist will be responsible for:
      • Drive forward engagement in these workshops for VIPs. Coordinating communication with LEO donors and potential donors, along with policymakers and other poverty advocates regarding these workshops and building tailored agendas for their participation
      • Coordinating all logistics of these workshops, both virtual and in-person, and managing budgets for cohort workshops. Responsibility for decision-making regarding venue and other event details. Partnering with staff colleague who executes on these decisions.
  • Event management – Own the project management and execution of all LEO events, including: LEO Board meetings, donor-focused events, and partnership-building events. This position will proactively manage details regarding scheduling, venue, food, AV, travel, lodging, and materials.
  • Strategic Initiatives – Execute special projects in support of LEO’s strategic initiatives, in partnership with the AD of Administration. For example, in the next year, serve as project manager for the development and implementation of the systems and processes required to report on LEO’s strategic plan metrics.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
  • A deep commitment to the mission of both LEO and the University
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience. At least 3 of those years are required to be in the non-profit sector while 7 years are preferred to be in the non-profit sector.
  • Clear understanding of the nuances involved in non-profit management, preferably through experience working in the non-profit sector. Experience working in the non- profit sector is essential as this person will be a key liaison between our partners and our broader team. This person must understand several aspects of non-profit organizations, including but not limited to programming, funding, and governance structure.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving organization with a dynamic team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with ability to juggle multiple demands simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite and Google applications (Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs)
  • Ability to learn online project management system used by LEO
  • Self-directed, with willingness to take initiative
  • Proven resourcefulness and independence
