Job Description

The faculty in the NSF Engineering Research Center “Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture” (IoT4Ag ) [https://iot4ag.us)]https://iot4ag.us) are looking for one postdoctoral fellow to further expand robotics research in this domain. We are looking for an individual to support the transition of algorithms from simulation/lab towards the UC Merced IoT4Ag testbed. This includes extending and customizing existing code for autonomous navigation and data collection in orchards, as well as integrating new sensors on the available robotic platforms. The appointee is expected to participate in IoT4Ag Center initiatives, such as annual meetings and NSF site visits. This may also include written research report contributions, student supervision and mentorship, as requested by the supervisor(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications

A doctoral degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is required at time of employment.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills as well as accredited mentoring skills to mentor graduate and undergraduate students who will work on IoT4Ag projects.

Additional qualifications

Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct scientific research independently and successfully are highly desirable. Prior experience in field robotics and with ROS is preferred.

Preferred qualifications

In addition to the degree requirements, an appointee should have a record of academic accomplishments including published or in-press research in leading robotics conference and journals.
