Position description
BiomeForge, a new UC Berkeley group run by Jennifer Doudna and Jill Banfield, is recruiting postdocs to join a team developing in situ DNA editing of microbiomes. As part of BiomeForge, postdocs will build on proof-of-principle community editing experiments to create efficient and broad host range editing toolsets using various CRISPR-Cas systems, engineered phages, and next-generation selection markers. This precise control of microbiomes will be leveraged by the postdocs for mechanistic understanding and applied control of impactful microbial communities such as those in the human gut, cow rumens, and the rhizosphere.

Two postdoc positions will open in this group at the University of California, Berkeley Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI). These positions will be advised by Jennifer Doudna with day-to-day mentorship from IGI PIs Benjamin Rubin and Brady Cress. The postdocs will heavily rely on and develop skillsets in microbial and molecular biology, genetics, and genomics. Postdocs will be responsible for leading experiments and communicating results through lab presentations, publications, and conferences.
