Department Summary

The Center for Advancing Interdisciplinary Research on the Environment and Health (AIRE Center) at the Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) invites applications for a research associate to work on a project funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. The project will examine the relationship between wildfire related air quality and burdens placed on hospital systems in Southern Oregon. Primary goals of the project include developing data driven public health interventions and investigating the chemical composition of indoor and outdoor particulate matter.

Position Summary
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in an ongoing project related to air quality and hospitalizations in Southern Oregon and will be encouraged to develop an independent research agenda related to the topic. Duties include gathering, managing, analyzing, and reporting data in accordance with project goals, contributing to the dissemination of research findings, submitting funding proposals, and participating in long-range research planning.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in environmental science, epidemiology, public health, data science or related field
  • Demonstrated experience using quantitative research methods, statistical data analysis methods, and the ability to use statistical software packages such as R, SAS, or STATA
  • Experience analyzing air quality data and/or electronic medical records
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision ensuring ethical conduct of research, meeting timelines, and producing high quality results in an environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully work, communicate, and collaborate in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

Additional Requirements

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as databases and specialized programs.
  • Ability to maintain comprehensive and clear records of actions, findings, and source documents as indicated.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
