Summary of Position
Under general direction of the IOD Director, this position will be responsible to plan, develop, conduct, and supervise original research in the community-based disability arena, and publish results obtained as part of the IOD’s multi-disciplinary team.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in academic research, and service in areas related to disability policy and services or related field
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Research Professor.
  • Ability to design, conduct, and evaluate independent research and supervise all phases of project for which responsible.
  • Documented experience successfully managing federal and or state grants and contracts.
  • Publication record, including peer reviewed publications, which reflects experience in relevant areas of disability policy and services, with a commensurate research funding history.
  • Documented record of external funding support through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service.
  • Must show excellence in, or a demonstrated commitment to, working with diverse populations including individuals with lived experience, their families, and other related stakeholders.
  • Documented commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through research, service, teaching, or volunteerism.
  • High degree of self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work both independently and with diverse constituencies.
  • Willingness to travel as required, both regionally and nationally.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and communication skills.
  • Ongoing supervisory experience which includes support and development across several types of employees.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated contribution to the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals and groups of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, disability, and/or ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience providing direct services or supports to individuals with disabilities and their families.
  • Knowledge of key federal and state policies and programs that impact the lives of people with disabilities (Medicaid, Social Security, Education, Labor, Housing, etc.).
  • Passion to connect research to service, and to develop research informed by the needs and interests of people with disabilities and their families.
  • History of supporting and mentoring graduate students and or student interns.
  • Lived experienced and or connection to disability.
  • Excellent organizational and program management skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Comfort with public speaking and presenting.

This Position is Responsible for the Supervision of:

Professional, Administrative, and Technical, Operating Staff, Adjunct Staff, Students.
