Postdoctoral Associate, Biomechatronics

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, BIOMECHATRONICS, Media Lab, to conduct research into the mechatronic design of computer-controlled leg prostheses, including ankle-foot and knee prostheses. Will conduct research on the design, development, and evaluation of novel prosthetic leg technologies, including mechanical, electrical, control, and industrial design aspects; design and implement research projects, gathering and analyzing data, designing research protocols, documenting research results, and publishing research outcomes; assist with the preparation of patent documents, reports to sponsors, and grant proposals; attend Biomechatronics Group research meetings and invite relevant speakers to present to the group; support/mentor Ph.D. and master’s graduate students; and engage in discussions and be available for questions.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in mechanical, electrical, biomechanical, biomedical engineering, or a related field; strong background in experimental and theoretical/computational aspects of prosthetic design and control; detailed understanding of mechatronic/robotic hardware and control and embedded electronic design; excellent academic writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; and a record of scholarly output in the form of peer-reviewed publications.  Technical skills should include experience with the engineering design of powered mechatronic joints, robotic sensing and control, and clinical assessment of gait.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of neuromechanical approaches to robotic leg control.  Job #21801
