Another Source’s client, San Jose State University, is recruiting a Director of Advancement Research to join their team in San Jose, California. This team works a hybrid schedule with 3 days a week on campus.

Here’s a little about San Jose State Advancement and the position they are recruiting for:
The Director of Advancement Research and Prospect Management provides research and prospect management oversight to support the Division of University Advancement. Duties include the identification and solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation gift prospects as well as managing portfolio assignments, proposals, and fundraising metrics. You will work closely with the AVP, Advancement and Campaign Operations and other Advancement research and information technology staff to provide a comprehensive range of prospect research, analysis, data analytics, metrics, data integrity, management, and data mining.

What You Will Be Doing :
60 % Research and Prospect Management
  • Provide leadership to the Advancement Research team to plan and execute a major gift prospect pipeline critical to current and future fundraising goals.
  • Direct the identification of new prospects. Oversee analysis and verification of wealth screening.
  • Recommend solicitation strategies and provide verbal interpretation of research to guide fundraisers in the development of cultivation strategies.
  • Oversee a system for tracking, reporting, and managing prospects based on comprehensive research.
  • Create benchmarks and goals for a moves management program, in consultation with Development leadership to ensure proper turnover occurs in assigned portfolios and ensure portfolios are kept supplied with new prospect names. Monitor progress of moves management goals.
  • Oversee the collection and integrity of data related to alumni including “lost” graduates, missing degrees; student activity, and employment information.
30% Administration
  • Establish and update research policies and procedures for the department based on best practices in the field including, but not limited to ethical standards, confidentiality statements, database records and research procedures.
  • Recommend software and other resources appropriate for the SJSU Advancement Research and Prospect Management Office.
  • Create and manage portfolios, proposals and fundraising dashboards in Tableau.
10% Training and Supervision
  • Supervise research personnel and operations.
  • Oversee workload of research staff and student assistants.
  • Train new research staff in prospect research and management
  • Instruct all alumni and development staff on research and prospect management policies and processes as appropriate.

What Will Make You Successful:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of eight years overall professional experience required
  • 4-6 years of professional research and prospect management experience in a non-profit development environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with databases and public information to analyze complete information
  • Fluency in a broad range of prospect research resources and techniques
  • Extensive experience using Tableau highly desirable.

Compensation:
Starting Salary: $102,588
One of the big WOW's is that this position accrues 16 hours of vacation per month. That's 5 weeks of vacation per year in addition to the 13 paid holidays and 8 hours accrued per month of sick leave.
