Essential Duties

Assignment may include teaching courses as assigned during day and evening hours. 
 
Have a commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth in the fields of teaching. 
 
Other professional responsibilities and activities normally expected of members of community college faculty as described by Board Policies and the California Education code.

Minimum Qualifications/Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages. 
OR 
A bachelor’s degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor. 
OR 
A bachelor’s degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching ESL in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which maybe completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor. 
OR 
Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language. 
OR 
A valid California Community College Credential authorizing service in the appropriate subject matter 
AND 
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Foreign Degrees

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.

Position Description
