Overview

This is an exciting time for an experienced, collaborative, creative communications leader to join Dana-Farber‘s HR Leadership Team, as we work to strengthen and modernize the Human Resources function and support the Dana-Farber workforce. The Director of Human Resources (HR) Communications and Events is a hybrid role, responsible for the development, integration, and execution of strategic internal HR communications to help HR achieve its strategic priorities related to Well-Being, Total Rewards, Culture/Engagement, HR Service Delivery, Talent Management, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The Director of HR Communications and Events will effectively lead communications efforts to keep both our workforce and our HR Team engaged and well informed on all new and existing HR programmatic offerings and initiatives. Responsible for developing overall internal messaging, strategic planning, marketing, and coordination/integration of different HR communication needs across multiple channels including Dana-Farber’s intranet platform. Works collaboratively with the Institute’s Workforce Communications Team to support Institute communications efforts and standards. This position reports to the Vice President for HR Strategic Initiatives, who is an experienced, collaborative leader with broad industry, communications, and HR experience.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with HR leadership to develop integrated strategic communications messaging and planning.
  • Serve as communications advisor to HR directors and HR leadership for effective HR department/division-level communications.
  • In partnership with the Institute’s Workforce Communications Team and Talent Acquisition Team, develop Dana-Farber’s Employer Value Proposition and establish external reputation of Dana-Farber as an Employer of Choice.
  • Develop change management communications strategy and execution for critical projects including:
    • HR Transformation and new HR Service Model
    • National Workforce
    • Performance Management
    • Workday HR-related communications
    • Assist with Dana-Farber Cancer Hospital HR communications, as needed.
  • Build and maintain HR presence on new Dana-Farber intranet, creating a user-friendly experience, including:
    • Establishing/maintaining an HR Visual Identity
    • Managing complex set of online content
    • Using metrics and analytics to monitor user experience
    • Regularly updating current content
    • Align HR content with HR Solution Center CRM Technology
  • Create internal marketing/communications plans for new HR initiatives and changes to existing programs including presentations, communications for existing and new staff, management, and leadership forums.
  • Work with Workforce Communications team on cross functional communications programming related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), including event and communication support.
  • Establish Annual HR Communications Calendar to manage the flow of information to staff, managers, and faculty from HR.
  • Maintain and support internal HR Department communications to keep the HR function connected, engaged, informed, and working collaboratively.
    • Develop and execute an effective and consistent HR communications measurement program to regularly evaluate and improve HR communications efforts.
    • Support department with writing, editing, proofing, research, presentation development, and fact-checking services.
    • Serve as HR communications representative on Institute workgroups, as needed.
    • Manage and develop HR Communications Specialist, and contract/temporary staff as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  1 direct report with contract staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; degree in communications or marketing preferred.
  • 10 years of communications experience; preferably within Human Resources communications in healthcare, academic or corporate organizations
  • 5 years of senior level management experience
  • Experience as a senior communications professional and an effective leader of communications teams
  • Success in designing and implementing creative, innovative, and effective communications strategies across a variety of communication vehicles (digital, broadcast messaging, print, presentations, marketing material, social platforms).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of technology, including working with different email platforms, content management platforms, and other related technology.
  • Ability to build and nurture positive working relationships with employees and managers at all levels and across functions and locales, including senior leaders, clinicians, researchers, nursing staff, administrative and support staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of working and navigating in complex, organizational structures.
  • Strong writing, presentation development, editing and proof reading skills, including a proven track record of writing effectively for different communications vehicles, formats, and audiences; and the ability to simplify complex information for lay audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to develop integrated messaging plans.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and to meet complicated and frequent deadlines with calm professionalism.
